   Dox Box

DOX BOX started as an initiative of independent filmmakers, back in 2007 as the first independent creative documentary film festival in Syria.

DOX BOX is not only a film festival for documentary, but an independent, not-for-profit event that decentralize from Damascus the capital to less privileged cities in Syria and beyond.

Our Mission is to bring DOX BOX as a platform for filmmaking individuals and institutions from the Arab Countries and the international circuit. A platform for them to meet, network, see some of the world’s finest creative documentaries, and get engaged in rich activities though a friendly and dynamic environment.

DOX BOX doesn't have a general theme; nevertheless, it attracts films with social, family, individual, and has two fixed thematic side bars dedicated to "Socio-politics" and "Gender".

The selection of DOX BOX is made by an independent selection committee that bases its selection on criteria such as social and artistic integrity of genuinely made creative documentaries.

Furthermore, DOX BOX is not only about screening films but appreciating social responsibility and audience involvement. Thus, DOX BOX organizes public debates and discussions with filmmakers, social figures.

The only award in DOX BOX is that granted according to audience votes on film screenings.

Because DOX BOX is targeting the general youth public, all public activities including screenings, debates and publications are of free-of-charge and delivered both in Arabic and English

DOX BOX runs annually in Damascus, Tartous and Homs during the first two weeks of March and tours in other Arab cities as part of a Pan-Arab Cultural Network.

DOX BOX is a non-for-profit activity that operates within
Proaction Film, supported by local and International organizations, institutes and individuals. DOX BOX was supported by the Jan Vrijman Fund, the Prince Clause Fund, Heinrich Böll Foundation, The Arab Fund for Arts & Culture, Kvinfo & Int'l Media Support among others and in collaboration with the Danish Institute, Goethe Institute, French Cultural Center, European Documentary Network, and the British Counsil among other international cultural institutions.

DOX BOX runs by an organizing committee performing under consultancy of an International Advisory Board and in light of a 5-year plan of management by objectives.
