NEW !!   Arab Documentaries Competing in AMAL International Film Festival 2009.
AMAL the International Euro-Arab Film Festival announced its official selection for 2009. Among Documentary Section is the Syrian-Danish production "Dolls - A Woman from Damascus" by Diana El Jeiroudi, and the two documentaries screened at DOX BOX 09 in March being "The One Man Village" by the Lebanese Simon El-Habre and "Color of Olive" by the Mexican Carolina Rievas shot in the West Bank. NEW !!   The Launch of NAAS, the  Network of Arab Arthouse Screens
After a launching reception in Cannes Festival's Pavillion of World Cinema, NAAS up and running. A gathering of Arab World arthouse cinemas, film events and organizations developed the concept and the strategy of the network, with the aim of sharing film programs and rasing each other's access and reach around the Arab World.

DOX BOX collaborates with Mardin Film Festival for a group of young Syrian student to Visit Mardin 20-25 June 2009:

A group of 12 Syrian student from HIDA (Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts) studying Cinema are heading to Mardin city in Turkey to join the activities of Mardine Film Festival as a scheme of fruitfull collaboration.  The group will participate in the training activities, watch films from around the world and get to know a beautiful neighboring city.  Among its activities the festival is showing a number of fiction and documentary films from Syria.


DOCS TALK CYPRUS
A long-term collaboration is developing between two neighbors, DOX BOX in Syria and the Lemesos International Documentary Festival in Cyprus. Lemesos IDF is launching a new, serious and very exciting new initiative entitled DocTalk. This comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by DOX BOX. Follow

- DOX BOX 09 film screenings closed in Homs & Tartous from Thursday on Sunday 15th of March 2009.

*Homs  and Tartous screenings will close down at 21:30 of Mach 15th, with the final screening of Burma VJ. the audience was great in both cities!

- The Closing Ceremony took place in Al Kindy Theater, Damascus. The Audience Award was presented to "Slingshot Hip Hop" by Syrian-Palestinian filmmaker Jackie Reem Salloum who was luckily present to receive the award The Award is a trophy by the Syrian renouned sculpture Mustafa Ali and a cash prize of 3000$.  Congratulations Jackie!

The Closing Ceremony was followed by the screening of the closing film "Burma VJ" by Anders Oestergaard...

-Slingshot Hip Hop will be screened in Al Qabbani theater at 8:30, in the presence of the filmmaker.

- DOX BOX 09 is pleased to invite you to a Masterclass with renowned French documentary filmmaker Nicolas Philibert, at 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Saturday 7th of March at the Workshop room in Fardoss Tower Hotel (and not at the Oscar Hall as previously announced). Invitation is non-exclusive.

- There is a change in the program for Friday only:
Film screenings of Al Kindy and Al Qabbani are switched. I.e; Films running in Al Qabbani will be running in Al Kindy and vice versa.
